We have not yet considered the salary, but some indication

of the kind of salary that might be appropriate in

pensionable):-

Basic Salary.

Expatriation

pay.

Colonial Secretary

£2400 plus

£335

Financial Secretary

£1900

£335

Secretary for Chinese

Attorney General

Director of Medical

£310.

FURTHER ACTION.

in addition a cost of living allowance is payable which

for the above officers (if married with children) amounts

at present to £660 p.a.

It looks therefore as though a basic salary something of

the order of £1,900 if pensionable or something higher if

on short-term non-pensionable contract, but comparable to a

pensionable salary of that figure, would be the sort of

figure the Hong Kong Government would probably contemplate;

expatriation pay and cost of living allowance in line with

the figures quoted above would of course also be payable.

If you think we should have to go substantially above that

sort of figure to get a good man perhaps you would let me

know.
